The newest member of the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame is Jones County native Steve McLaurin of Peco Foods. McLaurin has a broad range of experience in the poultry industry over his 45 years, including owning breeder and broiler farms, working for a renderer and in live production for several poultry processors. He has served on the Mississippi Poultry Association Board of Directors for more than two decades, including three times as chairman of the MPA Board of Directors (2009, 2015 and 2020).

The text of the major spending package was released overnight and with the funding deadline set for Friday lawmakers don’t have a lot of time to read it – let alone pass it. “There was some very tough negotiation,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson. A Hattiesburg Clinic anesthesiologist and Laurel native died after crashing his motorcycle on Sunday night as he left church. Dr. Darrell Burnham, 55, was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries and died soon after arrival after he crashed his motorcycle with a Kia Sedona at the intersection of Highway 98 and Barracuda Drive, Lt. Jon Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Department told local news agencies. Burnham founded the Hattiesburg Clinic Anesthesia Department in 1994 and worked there since.
Luke Bryan is filling out his 2021 Farm Tour bill. On Monday (Aug. 16), the singer announced that Dylan Scott, Whitney Duncan, the Peach Pickers and DJ Rock will serve as special guests for this year's month-long trek across various small-town venues. Kicking off Sept. 9 in Marshall, Wisc., the tour — which is Bryan's 12th Farm Tour to date — will hit six stops over the course of that month. The Peach Pickers and DJ Rock are Farm Tour mainstays: One or both of the acts have opened for Bryan ever since he first started bringing out guest acts on the trek in 2012.
One cursory look at the proposed redistricting map for Jones County led Circuit Clerk Concetta Brooks to this conclusion: “It’s going to be a nightmare.” That’s what she told the Board of Supervisors in a special meeting on Thursday. Part of the reason for the meeting was to discuss the plan, but the board couldn’t get into much detail because some of the data that was needed wasn’t available, as representatives from Clark Engineers were out due to sickness.
Former Rock Island Track & Field star Solomon Butler was inducted into the National High School Track & Field Hall of Fame at the Rock Island Fieldhouse.  Butler attended Rock Island for just his senior year, but in that time set several school and world records. “Truly one of the best athletes in the world while he was in high school,” said Chairman of the Hall of Fame Josh Rowe.  “His long jump was particularly special jumping over 24 feet.
